How Medimate screens, trains, and approves companions before they support any patient or family.
Medimate's companion training programme is developed and delivered in partnership with CoreLife Training & Consultancy Sdn. Bhd., an established training provider in Malaysia. This partnership is governed by a signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which defines the structure, scope, and standards of the training programme.
Every companion application goes through a multi-stage review before the individual is permitted to support any patient or family member on the Medimate platform.
Candidates submit an application covering their background, experience, and motivation. The Medimate team reviews every application to assess suitability before the candidate is invited to proceed.
Candidates provide identity documentation and relevant credentials for verification. Registered nurses must provide a valid Annual Practising Certificate (APC) from the relevant Malaysian regulatory body.
Approved candidates complete the Medimate companion training programme in partnership with CoreLife Training & Consultancy Sdn. Bhd. Duration depends on the candidate's professional background.
Completing training does not guarantee activation. Each candidate undergoes a final review by Medimate before being granted access to accept bookings. Activation is at Medimate's sole discretion.
Six core areas designed to prepare companions for real-world hospital and clinic visit support — safely, professionally, and within the non-medical companion role.
Clear, respectful, and patient-centred communication with patients, family members, and hospital or clinic staff throughout the appointment.
Understanding and maintaining appropriate boundaries, conduct standards, and companion responsibilities at all times during a booking.
Recognising patient needs, managing anxiety or distress calmly, and providing a reassuring non-clinical presence from arrival to discharge.
Familiarity with registration counters, appointment queues, pharmacy procedures, wards, and typical hospital and clinic workflows.
Handling patient information responsibly and in full compliance with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA 2010).
Knowing when and how to escalate a situation — including alerting hospital staff, contacting emergency services, and notifying the patient's emergency contact.
Training duration is structured by candidate background, as defined in the MOU between Medimate and CoreLife Training & Consultancy Sdn. Bhd.
Nurses registered with the relevant Malaysian regulatory body holding a current Annual Practising Certificate complete a 1-day refresher programme prior to companion activation.
Members of the public, retirees, and healthcare or allied health professionals without a current nursing APC complete a 2-day programme prior to companion activation.
Important: Completing the training programme does not automatically guarantee activation on the Medimate platform. All companions are subject to Medimate's independent screening and approval process. Activation is granted at Medimate's sole discretion following satisfactory completion of all onboarding requirements.
Medimate is a non-medical companion platform. All companions — regardless of their personal background or qualifications — operate strictly within a non-medical support role when providing services through Medimate.
Safety requirements are built into every Medimate booking from the moment it is confirmed.
Every booking requires a designated emergency contact. This person is accessible to the companion throughout the appointment and will be contacted immediately if any concern arises during the visit.
Companions are identity-verified during the application process. Patients and families can view companion profiles and booking details within the Medimate app before and during the appointment.
Family members who book on behalf of a loved one receive real-time appointment updates synchronised through the Medimate app — keeping them informed without needing to be present.
Companions are trained to escalate any unexpected situation to hospital staff immediately. They do not manage medical emergencies independently — alerting the clinical team is always the first action.
